AMD has unveiled the new Ryzen Z1 Series, a high-performance, low-power processor for portable console PCs that leaves the Steam Deck far behind.
The Ryzen Z1 series includes two high-performance processors, the Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme, both of which offer industry-leading gaming experiences, uncompromising battery life and feature graphics based on the AMD RDNA 3 architecture. Building on this hardware AMD has partnered with Asus to launch the first Ryzen Z1 series device with the Asus ROG Ally, a premium notebook PC console, which features up to a Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.
New AMD Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme Processors
Ryzen Z1 Series processors deliver stunning visuals and, with the efficiency of the “Zen 4” architecture, provide incredible battery life for a truly portable, high-performance gaming experience.
With AMD RDNA 3 architecture-based graphics built in, gamers will have the power to smoothly play modern graphics-intensive games. Users can optimize their gameplay with AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition using features such as AMD Radeon Super Resolution 2, Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening 3, AMD Link 4 and many more. These features can boost performance with increased frame rates and responsiveness, while helping to extend battery life.
- AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme, 8 cores, 16 threads, 12 RDNA 3 compute units and 24 MB cache.
- AMD Ryzen Z1, 6 cores, 12 threads, 4 RDNA 3 compute units and 22 MB cache.
All AMD Ryzen Z1 Series processors support USB 4 for fast and easy connectivity to the latest external storage and display devices, as well as the latest LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X memory standards, which deliver fast performance and low latency for more responsive gaming.
In terms of theoretical power the new Ryzen Z1 reaches 2.8 Tflops, double the 1.6 TFlops reached by the APU that mounts the Steam Deck. As we can see a high power jump. On the other hand, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme offers a power of 8.6 TFlops comparable to a Playstation 4 Pro that reached 8.4 TFlops.
Designed for new computing form factors
With support for Windows 11 and other operating systems, Ryzen Z1 Series processor-based devices can deliver the full range of Windows 11 applications and games. Gamers will have access to hundreds of PC games through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (sold separately) and seamless access to their game libraries. Built on x86 architecture and ready for Windows 11.
Users of Ryzen Z1 Series devices will also have native access to any social and productivity software. Ryzen Z1 devices are also equipped with intelligent power management technology that allows them to game and run these applications well with great battery life.
