ASRock will soon have an update available for its versatile ASRock J5005-ITX fanless board that we saw some time ago in one of our reviews, called ASRock J5040-ITX. This update includes the Intel Pentium Silver J5040 processor, the most powerful of this Intel family for low-power desktops and that seems to provide a good leap in power as well as several corrections.
Processors, RAM and storage
In this new passive ASRock J5040-ITX board we find the Intel Pentium Silver J5040 Quad Core processor that works between 2 and 3.2 GHz, an increase over the previous J5005 model that worked between 1.5 and 2.8 GHz, consumption is maintained at 10W TPD, It supports up to 8 GB of DDR4 RAM with 2400 MHz speeds working on Dual Channel. In the graphic section we have the Intel UHD Graphics 605 GPU that reaches up to 800 MHz and has 18EU with hardware decoding support for the HVEC codec and VP9 at 10bit color but not for HDR.
The ASRock J5040-ITX model has two sockets for SODIMM DDR4 2400MHz, has triple monitor support with HDMI 2.0 4K@60fps connectors with HDCP, DVI and VGA. At the level of connections we have four SATA 3 ports, an M.2 slot for the Wifi module, Gigabit Ethernet, 1x PCIe 2.0 slot, 7.1 audio jack and optical audio output, we have two USB 2.0 ports and as a novelty two other ports USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A with transfer speed of up to 5 Gbps.
