In the Chinese press we have been continuously reading rumors about a possible restructuring of Helio SoC’s from Mediatek to the detriment of its X Series, the most powerful given its results. A restructuring that would give wings to its P Series (performance) that we have seen in numerous mid-range smartphones and on which the efforts of this company will focus. These rumors seem to be taking shape as they have leaked what seem the specifications of their next SoC the Helio P40 and Helio P70. Two Soc that would fight with Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 range for the middle of this year and that would already be manufactured in 12nm by TSMC. A new strategy by Mediatek that can give better results than those obtained last year.
The Mediatek Helio P70 is the most powerful SoC of the two filtered, an Octa Core with 4 ARM Cortex-A73 processors capable of reaching 2.5Ghz on one side and 4 ARM Cortex-A53 processors that reach 2.0Ghz on another cluster while the GPU is a MALI-G72mp4 capable of reaching 800Ghz. It also includes support for 8 GB of LPDDR4 RAM up to 3733Mhz, eMMc 5.1 / UFS2.1 storage memory, up to 3 32MP cameras and a 4G modem with Cat.12 speeds.
The Mediatek Helio P40 is a more modest SoC as indicated by its numbering with a similar CPU configuration to the P70 but at lower speeds and same GPU but with only 3 cores and a speed that stays at 700mhz. It also supports 8 GB of LPDDR4 RAM that stays at 1866Mhz and 4G modem is a Cat.7.
