Today we bring a peculiar mini PC called Minisforum CR50 that mounts inside a processor discarded from the Playstation 5 console, a very peculiar PC that comes in a very attractive aluminum box.
This mini PC includes a processor discarded from the production of Playstation 5, specifically a unit that fails the integrated GPU and requires an external graphics card such as the AMD Radeon RX 550 included. Along with the processor, we find integrated 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM, a rather spectacular configuration, but one that we have already seen in other similar Chinese computers with rather disappointing performance.
Processor, RAM and storage
This mini PC with an AMD 4700S processor with Zen 2 cores, an Octa Core with 16 threads and as we say integrates the Playstation 5 GPU disabled. As a graphics solution we have an AMD Radeon RX 550 that offers a fairly low performance. The case of this small computer has a double fan above the processor and at the bottom.
Inside its metal case we find integrated 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM, for storage we only have the option of using a 2.5″ SATA3 SSD disk with a capacity of 256 / 512 GB, this computer do not have a M.2 slot available.
Other specifications
For network connectivity we do not seem to have a Wifi aC card or Bluetooth adapter as standard, however we do have a Gigabit Ethernet port. As connectors we find 4 USB 3.1 and 4 USB 2.0 ports, 3.5 mm audio jacks, HDMI 2.0 and DVI-D with video output capability up to 4K@60Hz resolutions.
Pricing and availability
- The Minisforum CR50 can be purchased from the Minisforum store from $729 / €628, but we certainly do not recommend it.
