They continue to come to Chinese stores miniPC of low consumption that take advantage of any Intel processor they find available as the MINISFORUM U500 that uses an Intel Core i3-5005U, a chip more than surpassed at this point. The rest of the miniPC, this time cooled by fan, is not bad at all in some things with its 8GB of RAM although if we want to use it as HTPC we will be limited to FullHD resolutions since it includes only HDMI 1.4 video outputs.
Basic Review
- MINISFORUM U500 is a compact mini PC valid for desktop use, multimedia, navigation and mid-level apps.
- Multimedia: You can play h.264 formats at 4K@30fps with KODI or IPTV streams.
- Streaming: Netflix, Prime Video, HBO up to FullHD quality as in the others miniPC we recommend.
- Power: Good performance in apps for its hardware set, the integrated GPU limits us to simple 3D games like LoL.
- Support: This brand has no known support, you have to resort to the guarantee of the store.
Processor, RAM and storage
The miniPC MINISFORUM U500 includes an Intel Core i3-5005U 14nm processor with 2 cores and 4 wires with a basic speed of 2Ghz and an Intel HD 5500 GPU cooled by an internal fan. The RAM is 8GB LPDDR3 and includes a 128GB SSD although we do not know if it is M.2 or a SATA3 2.5″ because this miniPC has space for these two types of hard disk.
Other specifications
The MINISFORUM U500 includes WiFi aC and Bluetooth 4.2 in the wireless connectivity section. With respect to connectors we have a good set with 4 USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit network port, 3.5mm audio jack, two HDMI 1.4 video outputs, microSD card reader and a USB Type-C connector in the part frontal.
