From today we have available the profile transfer function in Netflix, the previous step to start charging for sharing an account among multiple users.
As Netflix announced at its last investor conference, this 2023 will begin to charge for sharing accounts, a step that they consider necessary to get more benefits with the latest losses of users. The new profile transfer feature that has been announced already prepares the system to be able to transfer accounts for people who live away from home, so when they start to separate shared accounts you can take your user profile to your new individual account.
We’ll see how this affects the number of subscribers, if in the end it is counterproductive and generates an increase in piracy, where surely end up many of their subscribers who made a casual use through shared accounts.
Netflix profile transfer
This feature is already available on the popular streaming platform, an option that we can disable from the account settings. A function designed for people who leave an account and open another, being able to take with the profile history, lists and personal settings. Something that will be basic when Netflix starts to divide shared accounts into individual ones to charge more to each user. The information provided by Netflix is as follows:
What is profile transfer?
The profile transfer feature allows people who use your account to transfer a profile (including watched content history, recommendations, My List, settings and more) to their own membership.
There is no cost to activate this feature, and we will never transfer your payment information to the new account. Please note that child profiles and PIN-protected profiles cannot be transferred. Instead, all saved games, along with the progress of each game, linked to a profile, will be moved to the new account.
Who is this feature for?
People move. Families grow. Relationships change. Life is movement, and profile transfer comes in to make one small aspect of your life easier.
Unless you disable this feature, anyone who has access to your account will be able to transfer an eligible profile to a new account. Enabling profile transfer will not log you out of your other devices or block any users from your Netflix account.
Will I be able to change these settings whenever I want?
You’re in control! You can always turn off profile transfer on the Account Settings page.
