During the CES 2021 fair, which is only held online, Sony has confirmed that its new Smart TV for 2021 will come with the Google TV system pre-installed.
The new Google TV interface runs on the Android TV system as we saw in the Google Chromecast TV review, but it is still a customized layer with a different settings system. An evolution of conventional Android TV with much more visual and dynamic content on the main screen, although if it bothers us we can reduce it to just the apps we usually use.
The new Sony Smart TV 2021 presented with this system are the Z9J, X95J, X90J, X85J and X80J in the LCD range, for the high-end OLED we have the A80J and A90J with improvements in lighting. The system will be based on Android 10 and for now there is no news on whether we will see this jump to Google TV in the 2020 models.
Gradually the Android TV ecosystem is growing and there are already about 65,000 applications with native design for this environment. A flexible and comfortable environment to install apps freely, something we can’t do on LG or Samsung’s Smart TV with its own system, although we can always choose to connect an external TV-Box to it.
