At the Facebook conference we were introduced to the new Oculus Go a autonomous virtual reality helmet manufactured by Xiaomi with the collaboration of Qualcomm, a device that basically integrates the hardware of a mobile in the VR glasses and adds specific components for this sector giving it a plus respect to a classic VR box to install our mobile.
Inside the Oculus Go we have a lenses with innovative design that promise quality improvement, a resolution of 2560 × 1440 up to 72 Hz that promise to avoid dizziness and the screen is turned on automatically when putting the forehead on the helmet. In the side ribbons, we have too two small integrated speakers that provide spatial sound and we have a 3-axis gyroscope as a head movement sensor. The battery gives us a somewhat limited autonomy since in games it lasts 1.5 hours and in video 2.5 hours. By default with this device we have a simple control command that allows us to move within the virtual environment that is presented to us from the glasses.
Where the Oculus Go seem to stand out is in the multimedia reproduction, the quality of the LCD screen and the new lenses leave it in good position, besides the strap system to wear it seems to be quite comfortable. From the start we have more than 1000 games available, although many remain almost at the level of technical demos today, on the other hand we have all the popular streaming services at our disposal within the Oculus TV environment. We have social environments to play as Oculus Rooms, the Oculus Venues system to watch matchs or live events with our friends in a virtual room and finally with Oculus Gallery we have access to reproduce our photos in a 360º environment.
