We see less and fewer things with Linux for basic users and that is why we are surprised today by a Box called X96 Linux which, as its name suggests, comes with OS Linux.
The X96 Linux is still based on a Box ARM for Android with Amlogic S905X3 processor, although we suppose with some hardware modification that makes it easier to install Linux. We do not know exactly which Linux distribution it will have installed, since the sales website talks about Lubuntu 20.04, Devian and the Linux Kernel 5.15, we are going the typical Chinese advertising mess.
A Box that can be interesting for development or to tinker with this alternative system that has been in the doldrums lately.
X96 Linux Specifications
The X96 Linux box includes an AMlogic S905X3 SoC manufactured in 12nm. This chip is a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A55 processors that reach speeds of up to 1.9 GHz and integrates a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU, a processor about which you can read our comparison. The VPU is an Amlogic Video Engine 10 with HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG support among others.
We also have 4 GB of DDR3 RAM inside, 32 GB of internal storage and a micro SD card reader.
Other specifications
In the field of wireless connectivity, we find Dual Band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. The connectors included in the plastic box are the usual ones found in most Android boxes, two USB 2.0 ports, another USB 3.0, a 10/100 Ethernet connector, SPDIF digital output, an analogue audio and video output interface and an HDMI 2.1 video output.
It seems that this time no type of remote control is included to manage the Linux environment, unlike Android TV-Boxes.
