Once again, we come across another processor we thought had gone extinct along with the dinosaurs: the Intel Core i7-8650U, which appears in a new, low-cost version of the SOYO Y5 Power mini-PC, which is less than half a liter in volume.
This Intel processor is a 14-nm quad-core chip with a maximum speed of 4.20 GHz, released in late 2017, which features an Intel UHD 620 iGPU. Despite its age, it may be sufficient if you’re not looking for a computer to mine Bitcoin, edit 4K video, or play 3D games.
It features 16 GB of DDR4 RAM soldered to the motherboard, which means it cannot be expanded. For storage, there are two SSD slots: one M.2 2280 slot with a 512 GB drive installed and another M.2 2242 slot.
In terms of networking, it features Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, and a Gigabit Ethernet port. For connectivity, it includes 4 USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C port, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and 2 HDMI 2.1 video outputs. The operating system is Windows 11 Pro, and the package includes, in addition to the power adapter and cables, a small VESA mount for mounting the device behind any monitor.
