New data is emerging about the upcoming AMD Ryzen 5000U mobile APUs, a processor’s family that will take some time to arrive, the current 4000 Series is a big hit in sales since its release. These new processors unify nomenclature with desktop models but have two variants with significant differences, on the one hand we find APUs with Zen 3 Cezzane U cores and other variants with Zen 2 Lucienne U CPU cores, something that we will have to take into account.
The new AMD Ryzen 5000U APUs are all made using a 7 nm manufacturing process and have a 10-25 W TPD consumption, the variants with Zen 3 Cezzane U cores have a +19% IPC (instructions per cycle) improvement and have more L3 cache integrated memory. These APUs will have a better consumption because they make less cycles and have the unified cache as we saw in the presentation of this new architecture a few days ago.
Name | Architecture | Cores / Threads | CPU GHz | L3 Cache | GPU | GPU MHz |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
AMD Ryzen 7 5800U | Zen 3 / Cezzane U | 8 / 16 | 2 / 4.4 GHz | 16 MB | 8 CUs (512 SP) | 2000 MHz |
AMD Ryzen 7 5700U | Zen 2 / Lucienne U | 8 / 16 | 1.8 / 4.3 GHz | 8 MB | 8 CUs (512 SP) | 1900 MHz |
AMD Ryzen 5 5600U | Zen 3 / Cezzane U | 6 / 12 | 2.3 / 4.2 GHz | 12 MB | 7 CUs (448 SP) | 1800 MHz |
AMD Ryzen 5 5500U | Zen 2 / Lucienne U | 6 / 12 | 2.1 / 4 GHz | 8 MB | 7 CUs (448 SP) | 1800 MHz |
AMD Ryzen 3 5400U | Zen 3 / Cezzane U | 4 / 8 | 2.6 / 4 GHz | 8 MB | 6 CUs (384 SP) | 1600 MHz |
AMD Ryzen 3 5300U | Zen 2 / Lucienne U | 4 / 8 | 2.6 / 3.8 GHz | 4 MB | 6 CU (384 SP) | 1500 MHz |
Of course the difference between the two ranges Cezzane U and Lucinne U will be in the price, in the first one with Zen 3 cores we have new processors with superior controllers and in the second one with Zen 2 cores it’s still an upgrade of an existing product. When the first laptops arrive at the stores we will see if this is fulfilled.
We will have to wait yet to see the new AMD Ryzen 5000G APUs for the desktop, processors that will share design but will have a higher consumption because they are intended for a better ventilated box. For now in the graphics aspect we will have an evolution of the Vega RDNA GPUs, it remains to wait for a jump to RDNA2 to see something different in this aspect.
