This 2025 it seems that we will have interesting news from the hand of Amlogic, as we have at the gates the new next-generation SoCs that have been waiting a long time.
It seems that the first to be released will be the Quad Core Amlogic S905Y5, the heir to the well-known Amlogic S905Y4 , which will naturally surpass it in several aspects thanks to the leap to 6 nm manufacturing. In fact, Amlogic claims that the new S905Y5 will be 21% faster than the S905Y4, a fact that if confirmed in our review will be a significant step forward for this entry-level SoC. This increase in power would not be surprising, since we will jump from ARM Cortex-A35 to ARM Cortex-A55 processors and we will also have the benefits of 6 nm manufacturing.
The operating system is also renewed and the new TV-Boxes using this new SoC will already come with Android 14.
Amlogic S905Y5 Specifications
The S905Y5 is a new Quad Core chip manufactured in 6 nm. Inside we will have 4 ARM Cortex-A55 processors with a power of 20K DMIPS. The GPU is anARM Mali-G31 MP2 GPU, the same as in the S905Y4 and the performance improvements we will see are likely to be marginal. At the video level we will have support for native decoding of H.265, AVS2, VP9 and AV1 codecs with resolutions up to 4K@120fps and HLG, HDR10 and HDR10 technologies.
The RAM memory also promises a speed increase that would reach 20% with the adoption of DDR4 and better management. It also seems that we will have the definitive integration of Wifi 6 connectivity as standard in this Quad Core SoC.
Pricing and availability
