Today we present a new TV-Box called X88, the younger brother of TV-Box X99 that we review recently and with which he shares a box design with some similarity. We are in front of a TV-Box quite complete on paper as it includes 4GB of RAM, a nothing typical USB Type-C port and a remote control that has a microphone and that in theory has to work with OS Android TV that includes this team and that lately seems to be spreading in the Chinese TV-Box.
SoC, RAM and storage
Going deep into the hardware the TV Box X88 has as core the RK3328 SoC, a Quad Core ARM Cortex-A53 processors and a Mali-450mp2 GPU that includes native decoding of H.265 video and VP9 up to resolutions 4K@60fps with HLG HDR. It also includes 4 GB of DDR3 RAM and 32 GB of eMMc storage memory that can be expanded by adding a memory card in the included microSD card reader. A SoC that goes quite well as a mediaplayer but with a GPU that is just right for games of last generation at the top of resolution.
Connectivity and other features
As for wireless connections, this device has Dual Band WiFi with internal antenna and Bluetooth 4.1. Within the connectivity section we find in the perimeter of the plastic box a USB 3.0 connector, a USB 2.0, a USB Type-C, 10/100 network connector, SPDIF output for digital audio and an HDMI 2.0a port for video.
The operating system is Android TV 7.1 and includes a WiFi remote control with integrated microphone to give orders to the Google Assistant system, this model being Rockchip has no possibility of having certificates for Netflix HD.
Price and availability
- The TV-Box X88 can be purchased at the Geekbuying.com online store for $68.99 (58,85€) shipping costs included.
