Scams involving AliExpress are rampant; we’ve already discussed several of them, and today we’re focusing on the one targeting multimedia devices from the popular brand ONN, particularly in the U.S.
ONN devices are a line of quite interesting Android-based media players that are heavily focused on streaming content—we’ve already shared a few reviews of them with you. These players, which have been particularly successful in the U.S. thanks to their low price, are now prime targets for counterfeiting on AliExpress.
As always, we’ll find packaging that shamelessly copies ONN’s logos, corporate colors, and all sorts of branding elements just to give the appearance of legitimacy. The truth is that we’re actually getting a completely different product, both in terms of hardware and features. We’re actually buying a TV box or TV stick from the lowest end of the market; as we can see, it’s even advertised as having the Allwinner H313 processor, a chip that’s completely obsolete by today’s standards.
We also see that there are even devices with 8 GB of RAM, which is completely false, especially considering today’s RAM prices and 128 GB of storage, all for less than 30 €. They’re also advertised as having Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and Android 13—though you know that’s going to be a big letdown.
