New version of the popular AOOSTAR R7 NAS, a combo of mini PC, router, NAS and server, this time with a much more powerful processor.
On the board of this mini NAS we now find the AMD Ryzen 7 5825U processor, much more powerful than the Intel N150 we saw in its previous version. Inside its case we can mount two 3.5″ HDD storage units by opening the upper area, in which we can store teras of multimedia such as movies or series. We can also use it as a multimedia player for our living room TV. As operating system allows to install a Linux distribution such as iKuai, CentOS, OpenWRT… to use it as a soft router. We can also install Windows without problems.
This is a very flexible solution for those who want something versatile in their living room, but it is also possible to use it as a desktop computer thanks to the power of the processor that mounts.
AOOSTAR R7 miniPC specifications
This mini PC mounts this time the AMD Ryzen 7 5825U processor manufactured on 7nm. A chip that has six Zen 2 CPU cores with 12 threads and a speed that reaches up to 4.5 GHz. In the graphics section we have a Radeon RX Vega 8 GPU that will allow us to play somewhat demanding games. A processor sufficient for fairly demanding apps, games with some 3D load and emulators up to Nintendo Switch.
As RAM we have a SODIMM DDR4 module with 16/32 GB versions. For storage we have a M.2 NVMe 2280 SSD slot with capacity 512 GB / 1 TB ideal for the OS and apps. Inside the case we are allowed to mount two 3.5″ SATA 3.0 storage drives with support up to 40 TB. We also have dual fan system, one at the bottom and one against the CPU.
Other outstanding features
Integrated in the AOOSTAR R7 is a Wifi 6 Bluetooth 5.2 adapter and two 2.5 GB Ethernet ports for use as a router. We also have on the back of the box two USB 3.0 connectors, two USB 2.0, USB-C video outputs (DP PD), HDMI 2.0, DP 1.4 with 4K@60fps HDR support, 3.5 mm audio jack and finally a power connector. It does not have internal wifi module, but it could be added via USB, we do have Wake On Lan support and Auto Power ON system if we have power failure.
By default we have Windows 11 installed, but we can opt for other operating systems such as Linux, OpenWRT, iKuai, Proxmox or even if we want to use it with more conventional desktop apps. A computer that in addition to NAS, can also be used for multimedia playback, IPTV, KODI addons, SAMBA file server.
