Chromecast with Google TV now on sale, a great leap forward

We can now book the long-awaited Chromecast with Google TV at the official Google store only for $49.99 (€69.99), although its delivery is delayed until October 15th. As always, you will have soon our complete Review with a comparison with all their competitors.

This new Chromecast device is very different from previous generations, as it works completely autonomously thanks to the inclusion of Android TV 10 as the operating system, with its new Google TV interface (which will later arrive at other devices) and a remote control that supports Google Assistant thanks to it’s included microphone.

Naturally we have the Chromecast function included and support for 4K UHD resolutions with support for HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision video formats and Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Atmos audio formats. We found access to thousands of Apps in the Google store, although the streaming game service Google Stadia is not supported at the moment, and we will have direct updates from Google, one of the strengths of this new Chromecast that will undoubtedly be a sales success.

SoC, RAM and storage

The Chromecast with Google TV includes as its main engine the SoC AMlogic S905D3, a Quad Core with low power ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores that reach up to 1.9 GHz and integrates a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. It also integrates 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage memory of which 4.4 GB remain free. As you can see, it is a streaming-oriented device that includes a SoC with which we are not going to have problems of heating, since it is manufactured in 12 nm.

Other specifications

In the Chromecast with Google TV we have Wifi aC Dual Band and Bluetooth and the included connectors are only one HDMI 2.1 port and one USB Type-C port from which it is powered. Luckily this USB Type-C accepts the connection of a HUB which opens up a wide range of possibilities, as we can connect all kinds of external devices such as USB sticks or even an adapter with RJ-45 network input.

The remote control is small and minimalist design, works by Bluetooth and Infrared, includes buttons for Netflix and YouTube and is powered by two AAA batteries. It also integrates a microphone to perform searches and give orders through Google Assistant that we can connect with other intelligent devices, it is also compatible with HDMI-CEC that allows you to control your TV.
