As each generation we have a new version of classic passive mini PCs with aluminum box, this time we received the two usual versions of these new models with Intel 8th generation processors. As main new features we have the jump to DDR4 memory and processors with four cores and up to eight threads, something that can go very well if we are going to perform multi-process work as video rendering or similar.
In these models of the Intel Kaby Lake R generation we have identical box designs to the 7th generation products that we saw in our review some time ago. The simplest model mount an Intel Core i5-8250U processor with four cores and eight threads of execution that reaches up to 3.40 GHz, integrates an Intel HD Graphics 620 GPU and has a consumption of 25 W TPD. We have two SODIMM DDR4 slots up to 2400 MHz that allow mounting up to 32GB, as storage we have support for mSATA disk and 2.5″ drive with SATA 3 interfaces, a 300 Mbps wireless module is integrated. At the connector level we have 4x USB 2.0, 4x USB 3.0, HDMI 1.4 with 4K@30fps support, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet and two audio jack connectors. As we see a fairly classic configuration.
The most powerful passive mini PC of this 8th generation is the one that mounts the Intel Core i7-8550U processor with four cores and eight threads that reaches up to 4 GHz, integrates an Intel HD Graphics 620 GPU and has a consumption of 25 W TPD. A more powerful model at the CPU level than at the hardware configuration level is almost the same as the previous one but it differs in the inclusion of an SD card reader and in its DisplayPort 1.2 video output that allows us 4K@60fps resolutions.
