The new GPD WIN 5 PC console has been presented, offering unprecedented power in this type of machine thanks to the best APU from AMD.
This console, thanks to the recent AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor has enough power to run any app or AAA game without performance problems. Its screen is 7″ H-IPS and has a very compact design, with the classic scheme of controls of this machine but without sliding keyboard like the GPD WIN 4. In addition, we find a fast module with Wifi 6E that will give us good speeds, a high performance NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD and a microSD slot compatible with the new mini SSD drives.
An interesting console with Windows 11 that will allow us to enjoy any AAA title without problems of frame drops. Its only drawback will be the price, which is sure to be high at the start.
GPD WIN 5 Specifications
This new Gaming laptop is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU which is manufactured in TSMC FinFET 4 nm process. This is a Zen 5 chip with 16 cores and 32 threads that reaches a speed of up to 5.1 GHz. It has a small AI core of 16 TOPS for artificial intelligence tasks (38 TOPS adding CPU). As a GPU graphics solution, it includes a powerful 40-core Radeon 8060S iGPU that reaches a speed of 2.9 GHz. As cooling system, it mounts two fans and promises a great thermal dissipation to keep temperatures at bay.
In terms of memory and storage we have integrated 128 GB of LPDDR5X RAM at 8000 GHz Dual Channel and a PCie 4.0 NVMe SSD of 1/2/4 TB capacity that we can replace by the rear area.
Display and other features
The GPD WIN 5 console comes with a 7-inch H-IPS touchscreen display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, 100% sRGB color gamut and 120 Hz refresh compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium. In terms of wireless connectivity, it includes a Wifi 6E adapter with integrated Bluetooth 5.3. In terms of connectivity we have a micro SD mini SSD card reader, 3.5 mm audio jack, USB-C 3.2, USB-C 4 up to 40 GB that allows us to connect an external GPU.
The battery is 80 Wh with fast charging system up to 180 W with the included adapter. This machine has dimensions of 267 x 111 mm and a weight of 565 grams, much smaller than a steam deck. We have two analog controls, D-Pad crosshead, four rear triggers, four action buttons, additional volume keys, menu and fingerprint reader.
Price and availability
- The new GPD WIN 5 will be available in October and will be close to 2000 € considering the price of mini PCs with the same processor.
