Today, after a bit of a dry spell, we’ve found an Android box featuring the Amlogic S905Y5 quad-core processor: the new HK1 X5S. This Android box can serve as a local media player supporting up to 4K resolution, as well as for IPTV, gaming, and running just about any app.
This box features the classic rectangular design and a small front LED panel. It’s powered by the Amlogic S905Y5 processor, manufactured on a 6-nm process, which is an improvement over its predecessor, the Amlogic S905Y4. It’s an upgrade to the budget-friendly S905Y series, switching from ARM Cortex-A53 cores to ARM Cortex-A55 cores, making it a better choice than other SoCs like the Allwinner H313 or Rockchip RK3518.
For memory, options include 2/4 GB of DDR3 RAM and 16/32/64 GB of storage, which is expandable via its microSD card reader.
In terms of wireless connectivity, it features Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. The included ports are two USB 2.0 ports, an SPDIF digital audio output, a 10/100 Ethernet port, a 3.5 mm jack with analog audio and video output, and a high-resolution HDMI 2.0 video port.
The operating system is Android 14, and an infrared remote control with a microphone is included so you can control the system right out of the box.
