We found a new Chinese Android set-top box on AliExpress called the HS89 Mini 15, based on the new Rockchip RK3539 SoC, which aims to compete with the Amlogic S905X5m.
The Rockchip RK3539 is a quad-core processor with ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 1.92 GHz. The GPU is an ARM Mali-G310, likely running at 1 GHz—the same one used in the Amlogic S905X5M. This chip comes with support for AV1 and HDR10 and, at the very least, appears to offer a significant boost in graphics performance compared to other solutions from this brand, such as the RK3528, which uses a much older GPU—the ARM Mali-450. As always, heat dissipation is handled passively, so there will be no noise.
This SoC is paired with 2/4 GB of DDR3 RAM and 16/32 GB of eMMC storage. The HS89 Mini 15 also features Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity.
The ports available on its square plastic case include two USB 2.0 ports, a connector for the IR sensor cable, a microSD card reader, analog audio and video outputs, an HDMI 2.0 port, and a 10/100 RJ45 Ethernet port.
Finally, the operating system is Android 14, and it includes a simple remote control with a microphone for use with any voice assistant or voice commands. As always, it’s best not to count on updates for this type of budget player.
