Today we already find for sale the first Box that includes the new Amlogic S905X4-B SoC with a tuner for HD DTT called MECOOL KT1.
A new multimedia box that, as usual in the China Mecool brand, includes Android TV 10 as an operating system certified by Google with what we have Chromecast integrated. The MECOOL KT1 also uses the latest generation Amlogic S905X4-B SoC as its engine, of which you can already see our analysis that as you know includes native support for the AV1 codec among some of its improvements and in this particular variant it is certified for Dolby Audio. Another of the interesting points of this Smart Box is the presence of a DTT HD tuner with which connecting an external antenna we will have access to all the TV channels that we can tune in and through the included software we can program recordings to an external USB device.
SoC, RAM and storage
The MECOOL KT1 Box includes the AMlogic S905X4-B SoC, a Quad Core manufactured in 12nm with low consumption ARM Cortex-A55 processors that theoretically reach 2 GHz speed and integrates a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. The VPU includes HDR, HDR10 and HLG support and this “B” variant of the SoC is certified for Dolby audio. This Box has 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, 16 GB of eMMc storage memory and a micro SD card reader.
Other specs
In the field of wireless connectivity we have in this Mecool Wi-Fi aC Dual band with Bluetooth 4.2. The connectors included in the plastic box are an Antenna input, USB 2.0 port, another USB 3.0, AV connector, a 10/100 Ethernet RJ45 and an HDMI 2.1 video output.
It also includes a Bluetooth remote control with a microphone with which we can use the Android TV assistant.
Price and availability
- The new Box MECOOL KT1 can be purchased from the Aliexpress.com online store for around $ 78 including shipping.
Waiting for a review… 😉
I’d like to read a bit more about TV broadcast, given that this is the feature that differs from most competitors. EPG , LCN , HbbTV , recording, … other than usual tests for smartboxes.
In Europe everybody is shrinking TV broadcast frequencies to make room for 5G, so a lot of people (like me) could be interested to this box, to save an old but good TV from wasting.
Hi, you can read our review about Mecool K5, sure is very similar.
We will try to review this in the future too.
Hi. Sure it’s very similar, but in the same time it’s slightly different in most of the features.
CPU is different, so temperature and performances could be different.
It should manage 4K AV1 better then K5.
The device is google certified, so it is compatible with widevine L1. The remote has got a microphone (will it work?).
It should manage Dolby Digital (version -B for CPU means that, probably).
About DTV, I didn’t see LCN management in K5 … I don’t want to organize channels every time I make a full scan.
Ok, if we make the review we will test these things. 🙂
