MediaTek has just officially unveiled its new mid-to-high-end processor, the MediaTek Dimensity 8550, featuring eight high-performance cores.
This new processor features an All Big Core architecture manufactured on a 4nm TSMC (N4P) process, completely eliminating traditional efficiency cores to focus on a cluster of eight ARM Cortex-A725 cores (with a 3.4 GHz prime core). On the graphics side, it retains the powerful ARM Mali-G720 MC8 GPU, a high-performance solution that leverages HyperEngine to run demanding games. It also integrates an NPU 880 coprocessor, specifically designed to run the Google Gemini Nano V3 ecosystem locally thanks to its LLM Booster accelerator and hardware compression technologies.
It offers native support for LPDDR5X RAM at 9600 Mbps, high-speed UFS 4.0 storage, and compatibility with WQHD displays at 144 Hz. On the multimedia front, it includes the Imagiq 1080 image processor, which supports camera sensors up to 320 MP and hardware decoding of the modern AV1 video codec. Wireless connectivity is handled by an integrated 5G Advanced modem with download speeds of up to 5.17 Gbps, complemented by wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4.
