A new motherboard with APU is now available, the Minisforum BD895i SE offers powerful hardware and a large number of ports.
Under the large central radiator we find the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX APU with 16 cores and 32 threads, an ideal processor for high-end computing. As a graphics solution we have the Radeon 610M iGPU with RDNA2 technology, but we can also install a dedicated GPU in its PCIe 5.0 x16 slot. In its layout, as we see we have a large number of ports, it is a good platform to mount a NAS or a high performance mini PC covering any need.
This board offers us the mini-ITX 170×170 format, with these measures it is possible to mount it in any conventional box and install a large PC fan for the CPU or liquid cooling.
Specifications of the Minisforum BD895i SE board
Soldered on the board we have the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX processor from the Dragon Range-HX series manufactured in 5 nm and with a TDP of between 100-120W. A chip that has 16 cores and 32 threads that reach a speed of up to 5.4 GHz. The iGPU is an AMD Radeon 610M with RDNA 2 technology that reaches a speed of up to 1900 MHz. To maintain temperatures, it has a large passive radiator to which we will have to install a 120 mm fan.
For RAM we have two SO-DIMM DDR5 5200 MHz slots with 32 GB of RAM expandable up to 64 GB in Dual Channel. In the storage section we have two M.2 PCIe 4.0×4 NVMe 2280 slots and allows us to connect two extra SATA disks.
Other notable features
In terms of connectors, we have two USB-A 3.2 Gen1 ports, one USB-C 3.2 Gen2 with DP, two USB-A 2.0, several 3.5 mm audio jacks and 2.5G Ethernet port. As video outputs we have HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 connectors with support for up to 8K@60fps resolutions. In addition, we have audio front panel, BIOS reset on the back and multiple internal power connectors for CPU or cooling.
The power supply we need an ATX power supply in any form factor with 24 pin 8 pin connector. The compatible operating system is Windows 11 Pro, although we can also install Linux.
