Introducing the new MINISFORUM S5 mini PC, a device that stands out for its case design and operates completely silently on your desk.
This little powerhouse also allows you to install up to 5 NVMe drives with a total capacity of 40 TB. It also stands out for its array of ports, including two USB4 connectors supporting speeds of up to 40 Gbps and 10G and 2.5G Ethernet ports. This machine is powered by a new processor from the Intel Wildcat Lake generation, specifically the Intel Core 3-304 variant, which features 5 cores offering both high and low performance.
It’s a great option for users looking for a quiet desktop computer for everyday use. It’s also well-suited for office tasks, web browsing, and light local AI workloads.
MINISFORUM S5, passive mini PC
Powering the system is the efficient Intel Core 3 304 processor from the Wildcat Lake family, a 5-core, 5-thread chip (1 high-performance P-core and 4 low-power LP-E cores) that reaches frequencies of up to 4.3 GHz while consuming just 15W. For graphics and AI, it features an Intel Xe3 graphics core that delivers 9 TOPS of performance, combined with the integrated 15 TOPS NPU to offer a total performance of 24 TOPS in artificial intelligence processing.
We don’t yet know what RAM options it will offer, but it will likely feature soldered-on LPDDR5X memory. Inside the chassis, however, you can install up to 5 NVMe drives in its NAS configuration, reaching a total capacity of 40 TB.
Other features
As we can see, the MINISFORUM S5’s connectivity is quite well-designed, considering its compact size. The chassis features two USB4 ports with speeds up to 40 Gbps, as well as HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 digital video connections supporting resolutions up to 4K at 60 fps across three displays. In addition, it features dual 10G and 2.5G Ethernet ports to ensure maximum stability on wired networks.
On the wireless front, it features a Wi-Fi 7 adapter with Bluetooth, all powered by the factory-installed Windows 11 Pro operating system to provide a seamless out-of-the-box experience. If desired, you can install a Linux distribution to use it as a NAS.
