NEO X39 the new BOX with Android and SoC RK3399 by MINIX

Today at the IFA that is being held these days in Berlin has been presented the new TV-Box with Android MINIX NEO X39 a new device based on the powerful SoC Hexa Core RK3399 from Rockchip that comes to us from one of the leading brands of the sector, MINIX. The external aspect of this Box is the usual one of the brand and in it we have as significant a USB Type-C port that allows 4K video output at 60fps as its HDMI 2.0. Soon we will have a unit of MINIX NEO X39 for review where we hope to finally see a good software to this powerful SoC.

SoC, RAM and storage

Going deep into the hardware of the MINIX NEO X39 this Its main core is the Hexa Core SoC RK3399 from Rockchip that has a cluster of 2 ARM Cortex-A72 processors able to reach 2.0Ghz and another cluster with 4 ARM Cortex-A53 processors. Its GPU is a Mali-T860mp4 that supports H.26 / H.264 and VP9 codec decoding up to 4K @ 60fps video resolutions. It also includes 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32 GB of eMMc 5.1 storage memory that can be expanded by adding a memory card in the included microSD card reader.

Connectivity and other features

As for wireless connections this device has WiFi MiMo 2 × 2 aC Dual Band with external antenna and Bluetooth 4.1. Within the connectivity section we find three USB 2.0 connectors, one USB 3.0, one USB Type-C ,  Gigabit network connector, SPDIF output for digital audio and an HDMI 2.0a port for video on the plastic box perimeter.

The operating system is Android 7.1.1 and includes a remote control with microphone.

  • At the moment we have no price for the new MINIX NEO X39 that is expected to go on sale before the end of the year.
