Spotted by surprise the new onn. 4K Plus Streaming Device, a hardware that will mount the recent SoC Amlogic S905Y5 intended for TV-Sticks.
The onn. 4K Plus Streaming Device has already been seen on some Walmart store shelves, it is an update of the popular onn. 4K Streaming Device (2023). The main improvement seems to be the inclusion of the Amlogic S905X5M SoC S905Y5 and would be based on an SDMC design certified by Google and Netflix. This new Amlogic processor is manufactured in 6 nm, a hardware that will offer us a performance similar to the one we have in the Xiaomi TV Box 3rd Gen that we saw recently.
The default system is Google TV 14 with all the DRM certificates needed to watch the highest quality paid streaming channels. This micro Box is only intended for the US territory and in other regions will have blocked updates, in Europe we will see a Thomson version for sure.
Specifications of the onn. 4K Plus Streaming Device
In this new onn. 4K Plus we find in the Amlogic S905X5M processor, manufactured in 6 nm. It integrates ARM Cortex-A55 processors with a power of 30K DMIPS and a new ARM Mali-G310 V2 iGPU. We also have support for native decoding of H.265, AVS2, VP9 and AV1 codecs with resolutions up to 4K@75fps 10 bit, compatible with HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision technologies.
We have a single version of this Box with 2 GB of DDR4 RAM and 16 GB of eMMc storage. If we want to expand the memory we will have to use an external USB drive.
Other notable specifications
In terms of wireless connectivity, the onn. 4K Plus Streaming Device includes Wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. The connectors included in the plastic box are a USB-C 2.0 port (OTG) and an HDMI 2.1 video output with 4K@75 support. We also have Chromecast to stream content from our mobile.
It also supports 7.1 sound certified for Dolby Atmos and DTS. As usual, it includes a power supply and a Bluetooth remote control that has a microphone to give orders with Google Assistant.
Price on offer
- The new onn. 4K Plus Streaming Device will soon be available for purchase at Walmart US starting at just $29.88, but is currently unavailable.
