We received an announcement from the popular media server PLEX of a recent hack of their database, emails, usernames, and passwords have been compromised, but not credit cards.
From this company we are recommended to change passwords immediately, in order to protect our personal data. The passwords were encrypted, but PLEX recommends all users to change immediately to a new password. Surely in a few days all compromised emails will start receiving spam and false payment requests, so be aware of what you may receive. According to PLEX this breach was quickly detected and contained, no payment information or credit card data was collected on the affected systems.
The method used by the attacker has been corrected and further security reviews are underway to prevent similar incidents in the future. Users logging in with an old password are directed to the password reset page. Logging out of all previously logged-in devices is also recommended.
PLEX Security Recommendation
- In addition to changing passwords, it is recommended to enable two-factor authentication.
