Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, new 5G SoC for the entry-level range

Qualcomm has just announced its new Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 SoC aimed at the low-end of smartphones and which is a budget version of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2.

A chip that maintains 5G connectivity, but with respect to the superior version, receives cuts in clock speed, GPU and various drivers that make this SoC has a basic performance. The good news is that the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 maintains the manufacturing process in an efficient 4 nm, which will result in high thermal efficiency and consumption.

The official presentation took place in India, which already points to the fact that this new Qualcomm is targeting Smartphones under €100 where Mediatek controls the market.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 Specifications

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 (SM4635) SoC is an Octa Core manufactured in 4nm. Inside, we have two clusters, the more powerful one with 2 ARM Cortex-A78 processors that reach 2.0 Ghz and the more efficient one with 6 ARM Cortex-A55 processors that reach 1.8 Ghz. The GPU is an Adreno, although the exact model and clock speeds are unknown, although now it only has support for FHD displays at 90 Hz.

For RAM, we have support for LPDDR5X up to 3,200 MHz and LPDDR4X at 2,133 MHz, while storage reaches UFS 3.1 type. We also have Wi-Fi 5 connectivity, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, 5G modem (NSA/SA) and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 fast charging. On this chip, the camera controller is an ISP Spectra that allows the management of a 32 MP still camera or a pair of 16 MPs, while the video is limited to a maximum resolution of 1080p at 30fps.

Availability

  • It has not been announced when the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 will be available on the market, but we do not think it will be long before it appears in low-end smartphones.
