Redmi AX6S another cheap quality alternative to a WIFi 6 router

We already have in stores at an interesting price the new Xiaomi Router called Redmi AX6S, as its name indicates, it is the heir to the Redmi AX6 of which it maintains many of its characteristics, improves others and also reduces its price.

This router does not differ much from the original externally, since it maintains in its box 6 external antennas that can be moved to orient them easily and a couple of small front LEDs that indicate the operation of the system.

In terms of features, the Redmi AX6S is not far behind, since we have, for example, automatic recognition of gamer traffic that minimizes latency, support for up to 8 data flows simultaneously and the ability to manage up to 128 devices automatically. In the field of security, we also have compatibility with the WPA3-SAE protocol, management for IPv6 networks and compatibility with Wi-Fi Mesh in case we want to connect other routers to extend the reach of our network.

Specifications of the Redmi AX6S

The new AX6S router includes a Mediatek MT7622B SoC, a Dual core with Arm Cortex-A53 processors that reaches up to 1.36 GHz, two NPU cores to manage AI and 256 MB of RAM. The heat dissipation produced by this router is passive, as usual no annoying fans.

The processor that manages Wi-Fi 6 has the IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab protocols and reaches up to 3200 Mbps. This router also supports OFDMA, MU-MIMO, BSS Coloring, Beamforming, IPv6 protocol and WPA3 encryption. The 2.4Ghz band has a 2×2 antenna and reaches a maximum speed of 800Mbps, while the 5Ghz band also has other independent 2×2 antennas that reach up to 2402Mbps.

In the Xiaomi Redmi AX6S router we have a good number of ports, we have a Gigabit WAN port for the connection bridge with our router and three Gigabit LAN distribution ports. In terms of operating system, we have one based on OpenWRT with the corresponding MiWiFi layer, which we can manage and monitor through a Xiaomi app. An interesting alternative to, for example, connect in bridge mode to our operator’s router and significantly improve the range and power of our WiFi.
