We present the review of the SFX power supply of the SilverStone brand called SilverStone SX650-G. This super compact model has a size of only 4.92 x 2.5 x 3.94 inches and offers us a power of 650 W with 800 Plus Gold certificate with which we have an excellent efficiency and stability. This source has a system of modular flat cables that improve the air flow, an important point if we assemble it in a small box. It has a very silent fan with a diameter of 92 mm that has a minimum sound level in low consumption of 18 dBA.

PACKAGE CONTENT
This SilverStone SX650-G comes in a conventional cardboard box with all its contents, we have the source protected in foam and on the side separated in its own drawer of the box we have the modular wiring that accompanies it. We also have two manuals where we can see the technical specifications in addition to explaining the assembly of the modular wiring, we found a bag where we have some fixing screws.
In the SilverStone power supply the wiring is normally flat section which helps to maximize the internal current of our chassis, we have documented all the types of connectors and the lengths of cable lengths to which we find each of them, the power cable Main is also flat although it seems somewhat short and we have to take it into account, presumably we will mount this fountain in a not very large box.
DESIGN OF THE POWER SUPPLY
External design
As we see the design of the SilverStone SX650-G source follows a classic format, we must highlight the measures of this SFX format with 4.92 x 2.5 x 3.94 inches which is considerably less than the volume occupied by a classic ATX source, we should consult the compatibility with our box before acquiring it.
We can see a comparison of our SilverStone SX650-G source and another source in conventional ATX format. As we can see we are dealing with a really small source with a very high power per volume. In the back we have a small ignition switch and the conventional power connector.
On the back of the SilverStone SX650-G we find the connectors for modular cables, we have SENSE – 4 Pin, EPS 8 pin connector, two PCIe connectors, the module for the motherboard connector and three IDE power connectors.
If we open the box we can see how the fan directly affects all the components in the central part, as we see this fan has a dynamic fluid bearing a point that substantially improves the acoustic and life levels. As we see the main components have their own heatsinks, in the back we have the whole perforated plate for the extraction of heat.
BENCHMARKS
Performance
We perform our usual tests on the SilverStone SX650-G source to verify that the basic specifications defined by SilverStone are met in the details of the product, we pass several performance tests and we verified that the variations in the rails give us correct results in the line of the documented information.
As we can see in the SilverStone data, we have the 80 Plus Gold certificate seal, which ensures excellent efficiency and performance, we also have a coefficient of ±3% on the rails.

After performing different tests we verified that the differential obtained is correct and corresponds to the 80 Plus Gold certification which is one of the best we can find in this format.

In the tests we have been able to verify how stable the system is within ±3% of variation required by the 80 Plus Gold specification, the results are correct and we did not notice any significant instabilities in the flow during the different test scenarios.
Temperature
We put the SilverStone SX650-G source at maximum performance and observe how the system temperatures have very correct values even when the 92 mm fan is at its lowest speed. We can see how in a resting situation we are at around 26ºC and during a work session, extracting performance from the system, we go up to around 32ºC. If we keep the workload to a maximum for a long period of time, the system can reach 39ºC in time, which keeps the fan at bay, our test equipment does not have excessive consumption either.
Ventilation and noise
As we see the source SilverStone SX650-G mounts a silent fan of 92 mm that according to the specifications has a minimum noise level of 18 dBA, at the low power consumption level it is almost inaudible as we will see in our tests. Without a doubt a quality that It is appreciated because this type of sources is mounted in small desktop computers or in HTPC boxes that are near us.
We verify that the acoustic emission the system has a very low noise level thanks to the excellent mounted bearing, as we see when we are on idle, browsing or watching videos the fan of the source does not differ from the ambient noise, if we go to work with some application 3D or playing a game if we reach 40 ° C the fan spin fast and we can reach about 43 dBA, if we take it to the maximum if we reach 47 dBA but it is still hardly audible.
- Ambient noise level 40 dBa
CONCLUSIONS
Opinion
The SilverStone SX650-G source, as we have been able to verify, follows the quality line of Silverstone in this sector, in an ultra compact format like the SFX we have a power of 650 W with a really surprising stability. The selection of components is excellent and in the acoustic section the selected bearing gives very good results, in a normal environment it is almost impossible to notice the noise of this power supply.
We can mount the SilverStone SX650-G in any compact box thanks to its dimensions and we can feed without problems a relatively powerful graphics card. The modular system and the flat wiring make it very easy to assemble, this type of cables does not block almost the air flow without positioning them correctly. Definitely an excellent choice for anyone who needs this font format and high power.
