RockTek G2 Next, a powerful streaming box with the Amlogic S905X5M-J and Widevine L1

Today we’re introducing a new set-top box, the RockTek G2 Next, a TV device that features Google TV 14 as its operating system, is Widevine L1 certified, and supports the latest video formats.

RockTek G2 Next AndroidTVInside its stylish box, we find the Amlogic S905X5M-J quad-core SoC, which is more powerful than its predecessor, the Amlogic S905X4, and comes in this version with support for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. With the new Mali-G310 V2 GPU, which doubles its graphics performance, we’ll enjoy greater power, as you can see in our review.

The box features 2 GB of DDR4 RAM and 64 GB of eMMC 5.1 storage, which can be expanded via the included microSD card reader. In terms of wireless connectivity, the RockTek G2 Next includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. The included ports are one USB 2.0 port, two USB-C ports (one for power), a Gigabit Ethernet port, an SPDIF digital audio output, and an HDMI 2.1b video output supporting resolutions up to 4K at 75 Hz.

Its operating system is Google TV 14, and it DOES have DRM certificates to watch Netflix 4K and similar services like Prime Video and Disney in high resolution. It’s an interesting box, but it falls far short of the Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen), which offers similar features, a better update policy, and can be purchased for less than half the price.

It includes a power adapter and a Bluetooth remote control with a microphone for giving commands via Google Assistant and possibly an infrared sensor.
