Today we find the SZBOX G48S fanless mini PC, a solution to set up a Softrouter and filter all traffic entering our home network.
A computer designed to mount for example the pfSense software as a local network firewall, for example, that we can use without maintenance 365 days a year. The box also has an Ethernet PoE port, with which we can electrically power the mini PC from a router or with an intermediate adapter. With this method using a single cable we can have it working anywhere. It also has an optional 4G/5G card connection slot in case we want to have mobile connectivity.
A totally fanless computer with the Intel N100 processor inside that we have already seen in a review, undoubtedly an ideal solution for low power consumption to manage network loads.
SZBOX G48S mini PC Specifications
The SZBOX G48S passive mini PC features the Intel N100 processor manufactured in 10 nm with four cores and four execution threads that reach up to 3.4 GHz. For the graphics section we have an integrated Intel UHD Graphics GPU with 24EU compatible with VP9 and h.265 video codecs up to 4K@60fps. This processor and GPU allow us to use the device for other network, multimedia or office tasks.
As for RAM memory, we have a single SODIMM DDR4 slot at 3200 MHz that we can expand up to 16 GB. For storage we have a SATA SSD M.2 2280 that we can easily replace.
Other notable features
In terms of connectivity, the SZBOX G48S mini PC can be fitted with an M.2 2232 card for the Wifi and Bluetooth adapter, for which we have connectors on the back for 2 external antennas. As an option, we can install a 4G/5G telephony modem using its SIM slot. In the connector area we have two USB 2.0 ports, two USB-A 3.0 and HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort video outputs that allow video playback up to 4K@60fps resolution without problems.
In the rear area we have a DC-IN 12V connector for power, 4 Intel l225V Ethernet ports, one of them is PoE (60W) power, another one is a RJ45 COM RS232 convertible. It has VESA support and an external 12V power adapter is included. It is compatible with Windows 11 and 10, as well as Linux distributions and its BIOS supports Auto Power On, WoL and PXE.
