Today we find available the first generic Android TV-Stick equipped with the recent Amlogic S905X5M processor, the small SZBOX S180.
This is a small Chinese mediaplayer quite powerful, since inside we find the new SoC Quad Core Amlogic S905X5M, the same that uses the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen) although in this case we do NOT have any type of certificate to be able to see paid streaming apps in high quality. Highlight its good network connectivity with Wifi 6 and the presence of a micro SD card reader, something not very common in this type of small devices that connect directly to the HDMI port of our TV.
A stick that we can use as a 4K video player, for emulation, Android games and many more things thanks to using the new Amlogic SoC. Finally, the operating system is Android 14 in modified tablet version
SZBOX S180 Specifications
In this new small TV-Stick we have the Amlogic S905X5M processor, manufactured in 6 nm. It integrates ARM Cortex-A55 processors with a power of 30K DMIPS and a new ARM Mali-G310 V2 iGPU. We also have support for native decoding of H.265, AVS2, VP9 and AV1 codecs with resolutions up to 4K@75fps 10 bit, compatible with HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision technologies.
At the moment we have only seen a single version of this stick with 2 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32 GB of eMMc storage. If we want to expand the memory we can use the micro SD card reader that fortunately we have on the side of its small body.
Other notable features
In the wireless connectivity section, this stick includes Wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity. The included connectors are only a USB-C port for power, a USB 2.0 connector, a 3.5 mm jack where we will connect the infrared sensor extension cable and an HDMI 2.1 video output with 4K@60fps resolution.
As usual, a power supply and an infrared remote control is included, which has a microphone to give orders with Google Assistant. This Stick does not include a power supply, only a USB-C to USB-A cable, as it is capable of being powered from a USB port on our TV.
