The new Thomson Streaming Box 260 PRO has just been unveiled—a new media player that stands out for its 4 GB of RAM, a feature that is, unfortunately, rare in this type of certified streaming box.
This Thomson device is Netflix-certified and supports the latest video formats, although unfortunately it does not support Dolby Vision this time around. Inside, it features the Amlogic S905X5M-B quad-core processor, which is more powerful than its predecessor, the Amlogic S905X4, and this version includes support for Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital+.
This Thomson runs on Google TV and has DRM certificates to stream Netflix 4K and similar services like Prime Video and Disney+ in high quality. An interesting box, but it looks like it will come at a fairly high price; we hope we’re wrong.
Thomson Streaming Box 260 PRO Specifications
This new Android Box features the Amlogic S905X5M-B processor, manufactured on a 6nm process. It integrates ARM Cortex-A55 processors with a performance of 30K DMIPS and a new ARM Mali-G310 V2 iGPU. It also supports native decoding of H.265, AVS2, VP9, and AV1 codecs at resolutions up to 4K@75fps 10-bit, compatible with HLG and HDR10 technologies.
This Box is available in a single configuration with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of eMMC storage. If you wish to expand the storage, you can use the microSD card reader located on the side of the device.
Other notable specifications
In terms of wireless connectivity, the Thomson Streaming Box 260 PRO features Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. The ports on the plastic case include two USB 2.0 ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, an SPDIF digital audio output, and an HDMI 2.0 video output supporting up to 4K@75Hz resolution.
As usual, a power adapter and a Bluetooth remote control are included; the remote features a microphone for issuing commands via Google Assistant and possibly an infrared sensor.
