X96Q RK3539: Affordable 4K media player with Android 14 and 1.5 GB of RAM

Memory prices are taking a heavy toll on the consumer electronics industry, and Chinese TV boxes are no exception. Today, we’re surprised by the Android Box X96Q RK3539, which comes in a version with 1.5 GB of RAM.

X96Q RK3539 AndroidThe heart of this box is the new Rockchip RK3539, a quad-core SoC with ARM Cortex-A55 processors clocked at up to 1.92 GHz. The GPU is an ARM Mali-G310, likely running at 1 GHz—the same one used in the Amlogic S905X5M. This chip comes with support for AV1 and HDR10 and, at the very least, appears to offer a significant boost in graphics performance compared to other solutions from this brand, such as the RK3528, which uses a much older GPU—the ARM Mali-450.

This box is available in versions with 1.5/2 GB of DDR3 RAM and 8/16 GB of eMMC storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card. The X96Q RK3539 also features Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity.

The ports available on its square plastic case include two USB 2.0 ports, a connector for the IR sensor cable, a microSD card reader, analog audio and video outputs, one HDMI 2.0 port, and a 10/100 RJ45 Ethernet port.

The operating system is Android 14, and it includes a simple remote control with a microphone for use with any voice assistant or voice commands. As always, it’s best not to count on updates for this type of budget player.
