The Xiaomi 18 Pro will be officially unveiled on September 23 alongside other products from the company, marking the debut of the brand’s first privacy screen.
Xiaomi has officially set the launch date for its highly anticipated Xiaomi 18 Pro for September 23, an event where the company will unveil the new generation of its flagship device. What’s new about this generation isn’t just the usual leap in performance, but the introduction of innovative hardware-level privacy screen technology, designed to prevent people around you from peeking at your screen’s content from side angles.
Xiaomi 18 Pro and Its Enhanced Privacy
Unlike traditional plastic screen protectors or software solutions that simply dim the image at the expense of brightness, this display uses an array of physical microlenses integrated directly into the display layers. This technology allows the user to switchvia a button or quick access between a standard viewing mode with wide viewing angles and an activated privacy mode, which narrows the side viewing angle to 30 degrees or less. This makes the screen appear completely black or distorted to anyone standing next to it without compromising contrast or front-facing brightness.
The rest of its technical specifications will be unveiled at the event, but, as usual, it will feature the latest-generation Snapdragon processor. It will also offer configurations with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. Its camera system will once again be developed in collaboration with Leica, including a large-format main sensor and an improved telephoto periscope lens, all powered by a battery with ultra-fast charging of over 100W and running on the HyperOS operating system.
Screens with privacy mode and issues
This technology is somewhat similar to what we’ve seen on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. That device has faced significant criticism precisely because of its display, which suffers from a grayish color cast, and some users report eye strain. Let’s hope Xiaomi gets this type of hardware right.
