Presented exclusively for the Chinese market the new Xiaomi Mi Box 5 and Xiaomi Mi Box 5 Max, a TV-Box with a configuration very similar to the recent Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Gen.
A pair of Xiaomi Boxes intended for the domestic market of this eastern country and that include as operating system Android TV with the Xiaomi HyperOS layer, the Xiaomi Xiao AI voice assistant and apps widely used in China. As you can see there are two versions, both share the Amlogic S905X5M processor and only differ in RAM and storage, as the Xiaomi Mi Box 5 Max comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, twice as much as the base version.
Remember that they are TV-Boxes designed for the Chinese domestic market, they will probably only have English as a foreign language and will not have certificates to view paid streaming apps in high video quality.
Xiaomi Mi Box 5 and Xiaomi Mi Box 5 Max Specifications
Inside these new Android Box we find in the Quad Core Amlogic S905X5M processor, manufactured in 6 nm. This integrates ARM Cortex-A55 processors with a power of 30K DMIPS and a new ARM Mali-G310 V2 iGPU. We have support for native decoding of H.265, AVS2, VP9 and AV1 codecs with resolutions up to 4K@75fps 10 bit, compatible with HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision technologies.
The Xiaomi Mi Box 5 arrives with 2 GB of DDR4 RAM and 32 GB of eMMc storage and the Xiaomi Mi Box 5 Max includes 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.
Other notable specifications
On the wireless connectivity front, both variants include NFC connectivity, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. Connectors included in the plastic case are a USB-A 2.0 (OTG) port and an HDMI 2.1 video output with 4K@75 HDR resolution.
They also support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X certified 7.1 sound. As usual, a power supply is included and a Bluetooth remote control that has a microphone to give commands through Xiaomi’s voice assistant.
Price and availability
- The new Xiaomi Mi Box 5 and Xiaomi Mi Box 5 Max can be purchased in China from May 15 at a price starting from 38 € for the Mi Box 5 and reaching 62 € for the Mi Box 5 Max.
