Over the past year, batteries have become much more affordable while offering improved performance, which is opening up new opportunities for home users who have solar panel systems for self-consumption—or even for those who don’t have such systems but want to get the most out of their electricity rates by taking full advantage of off-peak periods.
The OUKITEL EP2500 is an IP65-rated solar storage system for balconies that is carving out a niche in this emerging sector. This system can be used in grid-tied mode, meaning it can be connected directly to your home’s electrical grid to dynamically feed electricity back into the grid at a rate between 800 and 2,500 watts, thereby reducing your electricity bill. It features 3,000 W of bypass power, through which energy flows directly to household appliances, and 2,500 W of off-grid backup for power outages, during which the home is isolated from the public grid to prevent energy from flowing back into the grid and creates its own “private grid” using the energy stored in the OUKITEL EP2500 and the energy produced by the solar panels at that moment.
To use it, you must connect it to a smart meter installed in your electrical panel. This allows you to monitor energy consumption in real time and helps the EP2500 automatically adjust its output to match your home’s energy demand, as well as activate off-grid mode in the event of a widespread power outage.

The Oukitel EP2500 storage system comes equipped with a base capacity of 2048 Wh using LiFePO₄ cells. The output connected to the utility grid is dynamic and adjustable from 800 W to 2,500 W, while for off-grid emergencies it offers up to 2,500 W of power, supporting bypass of up to 3,000 W. This allows it to power a home’s daily self-consumption needs or keep basic appliances running during a power outage for several hours, with an instantaneous switching time of ≤10 ms. Modularity is one of its key advantages, as it is scalable up to a maximum of 16,384 kWh by connecting up to 7 additional EP2000 expansion batteries. The service life of its cells ensures more than 4,000 charge cycles at 80% of their original capacity.
For recharging, it supports a solar input of up to 4,000 W distributed across 4 independent photovoltaic channels thanks to its 4 MPPT connectors and microinverter. Additionally, it features a standard AC input and output outlet for charging directly from the utility grid during off-peak hours when electricity is cheaper. In terms of connectivity, it can be managed and monitored remotely in real time via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth using its smartphone app.
It should be noted that this storage system includes a Battery Management System (BMS) that protects it from overloads, dangerous overheating, overvoltage, and short circuits, and it has a UL94 V-0 fire resistance rating.
