New AMlogic SoC that we find browsing AliExpress, the S905W2, a chip intended for low-end TV-Box, but which for the moment comes at an out-of-place price.
The X98 is the typical Chinese Box that only attracts attention for integrating the new Amlogic S905W2, a chip from which we do not have all its data such as the clock speeds of its CPU and GPU. It is precisely in the GPU where we find something new, since it is capable of decoding video of the AV1 codec and up to 4K @ 60fps resolutions and with HDR 10+. The operating system is also a positive point, since we have Android 11 in its tablet version, naturally not certified by Google, so that the reproduction of content from paid streaming platforms will be at a minimum quality.
SoC, RAM and storage
The TV Box X98 integrates as its heart the new Amlogic S905W2 SoC, a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A35 processors and a MALI-G3 MP2 GPU.
It has 2/4 GB of DDR3 RAM, 16/32/64 GB of eMMc storage memory and a micro SD card reader located on the side of the black plastic box that allows us to increase its internal storage capacity.
As for wireless connectivity inside the X98 we have Dual band Wi-Fi aC with internal antenna and Bluetooth 5.2. In the connectors section, this mini Smart Box includes 2 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI 2.0 port, SPDIF audio output, micro SD reader, 10/100 network connector, infrared port extension and finally an analogue port for audio and video.
Also included in the box is a simple infrared remote control, power supply and all the necessary cables to get it started right out of the box.
