Android 11 comes to the Amlogic S905X4 SoC in the Box X96 X4

Android 11 comes to Chinese Boxes with the Amlogic S905X4 SoC, as today we discovered on AliExpress the Smart Box X96 X4 that comes with this version of Google’s operating system.

A Box that in its design stands out for including in its perimeter a multicolor LED strip with different lighting modes and that we assume can be deactivated. The new features of the Box X96 X4, in addition to including Android 11, are centered on its Amlogic S905X4 SoC, capable of natively playing video files encoded with AV1 and which you can see our comparison against other current chips. Also interesting is the presence of a Gigabit Ethernet connector, a must if you want to wire this Box.

SoC, RAM and storage

The Smart Box X96 X4 includes the AMlogic S905X4 SoC, a Quad Core manufactured in 12 nm with low-power ARM Cortex-A55 processors that theoretically reach 2 GHz speed and integrates a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. The VPU includes 4K@60fps, HDR, HDR10 and HLG support.

We have different versions with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM and 32/64 GB of eMMc storage and a micro SD card reader.

Other specifications

In the field of wireless connectivity, all its versions have dual-band Wifi aC and Bluetooth 4.1. The connectors included in the plastic box are a USB 2.0 port, a USB 3.0 port, 3.5 mm AV connector, SPDIF digital audio output, Gigabit Ethernet and an HDMI 2.0 video output. As usual, HDMI cable, power supply and a basic IR remote control are included to be able to use this Smart Box from the first moment, although we have other options with different remote controls.

Hello again,
is it perhaps possible Android 10 or even better Android TV
(Google TV) to install on the device ?
The Android 11 that is now on it can not turn off the box.

Oliver B

Too bad, but do you already have a solution or an idea how to turn off the TV box ? mine always turns on again

Oliver B

Thanks I have also already considered, but that’s just not nice.
Please if you find something to solve the problem, write it here

Hello from Germany,
I also have such a box.
I can not turn it off via the remote control.
The box restarts again and again.
Do you have a tip for me please
Greetings
Oliver B

In my case it does that too sometimes (power key = shutdown and restart).

Oliver B

With me always, that annoys me

Hi guys, I bough this box for testing and the power button behavior is pretty awful. Box just turn off, it doesn’t have any sleep option, and sometime the box won’t turn on so you have to do a power cycle. Have you experience any of this? Thanks.

Cazz

Thanks…I could say this box has many software issues…but I’ll wait for your review guys.

Hello,
yes please ask for an update. I would do it myself but I don’t know if I should ask. It’s a pity that you can’t turn off the TV box properly.
