New ASRock 4X4 BOX 8040 industrial mini PCs offer new high-performance APUs and a redesigned case.
These small computers are updated with AMD Ryzen 5 8640U and AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processors which are an identical version to the 7040, they include only 40% AI improvements thanks to the XDNA2 engine with 16 dedicated NPUs. These versions maintain the DDR5 RAM with a speed of 5600 Mhz, we also have full USB4 ports, Wifi 6E connectivity for high speed wireless, VESA support and a 2.5G Ethernet port in the rear area.
We also have a new case that now includes two SSD slots where we can mount an M.2 NVMe 2280 and another M.2 NVMe 2242 drive. A new case in which the option to install a 2.5″ SATA3 storage drive has been removed.
ASRock 4X4 BOX 8040 Specifications
This mini PC offers two versions, we have the simpler ASRock 4X4 BOX-8640U and the powerful ASRock 4X4 BOX-8840U. Inside we find mounted respectively the AMD Ryzen 5 8640U Hexa Core and Ryzen 7 8840U Octa Core APUs, AMD APUs with Zen 4 cores very efficient thanks to the 4 nm used in its manufacture. Both APUs include an AMD Radeon 760/780M GPU which, thanks to the RDNA3 architecture, offers slightly better performance than RDNA2.
This compact PC allows us to mount up to 64 GB of RAM, as it includes two slots for SO-DIMM DDR5 5600 MHz modules. For storage we have two PCIe x4 NVMe SSD connectors, one with sizes 2280/2242 and the other exclusively 2242.
Other notable specifications
This mini PC is capable of Wifi 6E wireless connectivity and Bluetooth 5.2. On the front of the case we have 1x USB-A 3.2 Gen2, 2x USB4 (DP 1.4a) and 3.5 mm audio jack. In the rear area we have a Gigabit Ethernet network port and a 2.5 Gbit/s Ethernet port. We have four video outputs, an HDMI 1.4b port with 4K@60 HDR support , DP 1.2a plus the two DisplayPort outputs via the front USB Type-C ports.
As usual, it is compatible with Windows 11 Pro and Linux. Also included is a VESA bracket and a small DC power adapter to supply power.
