Daijisho, launcher for Emulators and Games with style. Tutorial and Configuration

Today we present our tutorial for Daijisho, an interesting launcher for Android that allows you to set up your games and emulators in the most attractive way.

The Daijishō launcher thanks to its attractive design and features allows us to configure in detail our entire Library of games in a few minutes. Through its Android application that we can download from Google Play we have it is easy to launch our retro library. This is ideal for those devices that do not allow installations of systems such as BATOCERA, or EmuELEC.

what is Daijisho?

The Daijishou or Daijishō launcher is an open source Android app that manages emulators, roms and scrapes game contents easily. It is an ideal complement to RetroArch on our Smartphone, Tablet or retro console that has Android and does not require installing another dedicated alternative OS.

  • NOT work with Android TV-Boxes, we recommend using RetroArch directly.

Installation and first steps

To use Daijisho on our Android TV-Box, Smartphone, Tablet or Androidretro console we just need to install the app and configure it.

  1. Download Daijisho from Google Play, also the APK on their Github.
  2. Install RetroArch to easily download emulators.

Main menus and environment

We already have Daijisho installed and we have a startup icon, if we want we can run it and see how it works. We can launch it for the first time to get to know the system environment.

When it starts we still do not have any emulator installed, we click on“Download Platforms

In the list of“Platforms” we choose the emulators we want to use in our machine. Just select the ones you need, then you can add or remove the ones you want.

When we have already chosen the systems we can switch between them with the Gamepad, with touch control, keyboard or by clicking at the bottom left in the list of names.

In addition to the main screen“Librarys” in the upper area we have other sections such as“Widgets” that we can customize,“Apps” with the Android apps installed and “Settings” with all the settings.

  • In the Widgets we can add the games we want as shortcuts, put achievements or icon to continue playing our last game.

Configuring Emulators and Games in Daijisho

We can download any game in ROM or ISO format easily following our specific guide about it. We have from the oldest to the most modern games, we just need to download and copy the ROM to the right place.

Install games on Daijisho

We recommend copying the downloaded game files inside our Android system in a folder like“/roms/XXX” being XX the name of a system like NES or Megadrive. This way it will be easier to use them later.

Configuring emulators

The Daijisho app is just a launcher and will run the emulators that we have installed on the system, to manage this the best option is to install RetroArch on Android as we have indicated before.

In the main “Library” menu we click on the “pencil icon” in the lower right corner to enter to configure the emulator we are going to use. We have several sections as its name, achievements but the important section is the“Emulator settings” here is where we have to choose the emulator that we are going to use for this machine. In our example“genesis_plus_gx_wide” for Sega Megradrive.

We go to RetroArch and in the main menu we go to” Load Core“, here we have to download the new one we are going to use in Daijisho. In our example“genesis_plus_gx_wide” for Sega Megradrive, the same that we had previously selected so that the launcher can use it. We will repeat this with all the emulators that we have installed.

Configure game or roms path

Now in the main menu of“Library” we click on the “ Paths” in the lower left corner to assign the path where we have the games or roms of that system. We click in “ADD MORE” and we accept permissions for the file explorer that opens. We go to the path where we have the roms of that system, for example “/roms/megadrive” and click on“USE THIS FOLDER” and then“ALLOW“. Then click on“SYNC” to add the games to that Library.

Now, when we enter this“Library” from the main menu we will see the list of installed games. In addition, an automatic Scraping of all the art and means of the games is made, something very comfortable.

  • Within the details of each game and edit we can adjust all sections of a title.

Now if we click on “Play” we may get a message to assign an emulator to this collection. Click on “DETECT” and select the desired emulator. For example, “genesis_plus_gx_wide” for Sega Genesis. If the game does not start, go back to the main menu “Collection” and with the stylus assign the correct emulator.

Now we can execute the game with“Play“, if we get a message of“Stop existing processes” we give to“CONFIRM” and it will be executed normally.

From the Retroarch icon we can disable the touch controls and other sections of the emulator we are using.

Change Daijisho’s appearance

This launcher allows us to configure its appearance in many ways, within Settings > Appearance we can use the“Download background packs” section to select how to view the Librarys.
