It has been a long time since we last saw a generic Android Box equipped with the Amlogic S905Y4 processor, but today we discover the M98 MAX.
A Chinese Box of cheap range that is based on the Quad Core AMlogic S905Y4 SoC that will give us the necessary power to move any app and that seems to us a much more recommendable option than the Rockchip RK3528 which is the chip that we usually see lately in this price range. As operating system we have Android TV 11 and curiously includes a remote control via Bluetooth and includes microphone to use voice assistants.
An interesting basic Android Box option if we want to use it as a 4K media player and even with games, emulators and most apps.
M98 MAX Specifications
The TV Box M98 MAX includes as engine an AMlogic S905Y4 processor manufactured in 12nm. This chip is a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A35 processors and an ARM Mali-G31 MP2 GPU that reaches 850 Mhz. This SoC includes AV1 codec decoding, support for video output up to 4K@60fps resolutions. It has support for HDR10 technologies, but does not support Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos.
For RAM we have options with 2/4 GB DDR3 while for storage we have versions with 16/32 GB, a figure that we can also expand this time thanks to the micro SD card reader that we have on the side of the plastic case.
Other features
For wireless connectivity we have wifi aC Dual Band and Bluetooth 5.0. The connectors are on the perimeter of the plastic box and are a pair of USB 2.0 ports, SPDIF digital audio output, analog audio and video output, RJ45 10/100 network connector and an HDMI 2.1 video output.
The remote control has a microphone to give voice commands and is via Bluetooth, but also includes an IR emitter to control the TV in its most basic functions such as volume and off / on.
