Mecool KD3 another basic Stick with Android TV 11 and AMlogic S905Y4 SoC


There are no two without three and after the Mecool KM7 and the Mecool KD2 another Mecool arrives with the new Amlogic S905Y4 SoC, it is the Mecool KD3 and this time it is designed in TV-Stick format.

This is the simplest multimedia player of the three that we have seen so far with the Amlogic S905Y4, since it only includes 2/8 GB and the expansion connectors are conspicuous by their absence. The Mecool KD3 is 100% oriented to streaming and like the others it already includes Android TV 11 certified by Google as an operating system with Chromecast, although we can count that it will not have a Netflix certificate.

A device that right now is unattractive to us, since we have cheaper and more complete options such as the Chromecast with Google TV, it will soon drop drastically in price.

SoC, RAM and storage

The MECOOL KD3 Smart Box integrates as a motor an AMlogic S905Y4 SoC, a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A35 processors and an ARM Mali-G31 MP2 GPU that reaches 850 Mhz. This SoC includes decoding of the new AV1 codec, support for video output up to 4K @ 60fps resolutions and compatibility with HDR 10, HDR10 +, HLG, Dolby Vision technologies.

The RAM memory is 2 GB DDR4 while for storage we have only 8 GB, so we will be able to install only a few apps and they cannot be expanded, since we do not have a memory card reader.

Other specs

For wireless connectivity, we have Dual Band aC Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1. The connectors are completely absent, since we only have a micro USB port for power and an HDMI 2.0 video connector.

The included remote control is via Bluetooth, and we have direct access buttons to Prime Video, Spotify, YouTube and Google Play as well as a microphone for voice functions.
