Another basic TV-Stick of the Mecool brand is already appearing in Chinese stores and that is oriented to the reproduction of content by streaming the Mecool KD5.
A stick that draws our attention because it includes the Amlogic S805X2 SoC, a chip that we see for the first time in a device and that corresponds to the entry range. It stands out for the inclusion of the AV1 codec, its support for HDR technologies, HDR10 + although its design is limited to FHD resolutions. It is not a very powerful SoC, as it includes ARM Cortex-A35 CPU cores that lag behind the Cortex-A55 and the GPU is a modest ARM Mali-G31 MP2.
The operating system of the Mecool KD5 is Android TV 11 certified by Google, Chromecast included, although as is the norm we do not expect it to have certificates to watch Netflix and other platforms in 4K quality.
SoC, RAM and storage
The small Mecool KD5 integrates the new AMlogic S805X2 SoC, a Quad Core manufactured in 12nm with ARM Cortex-A53 processors and a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU.
The RAM memory is only 1 GB DDR3, at least in this version and for storage it includes only 8 GB, a memory configuration that is very short for current uses.
Other specs
For wireless connectivity, we have Dual Band aC Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1. The connectors are almost non-existent, since we only have a micro USB port for power and an HDMI 2.0 video connector.
The included remote control is via bluetooth, and we have direct access buttons to Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube and Google Play as well as a microphone for voice functions.
Price and availability in stores
- The new Stick Mecool KD5 can be purchased on AliExpress from €103.20 / $120 with shipping and taxes included for Europe, a price that will drop considerably shortly.
