It reappears in online stores with a price reduction, including one of the basic TV-Sticks of the Chinese Mecool brand oriented to streaming content playback, the Mecool KD5.
A very basic Stick that only stands out for including the entry-level AMlogic S805X2 SoC that stands out for the inclusion of the AV1 codec. It also has support for HDR technologies, HDR10 + although by design it is limited to FHD resolutions. It is not a very powerful SoC, as it includes ARM Cortex-A35 CPU cores that fall behind the Cortex-A5x and the GPU is a modest ARM Mali-G31 MP2.
The operating system of the Mecool KD5 is Android TV 11 certified by Google, Chromecast included and includes certificates to view Netflix and other platforms in FHD quality. An interesting Stick for the certificates and its AV1 codec, but with a very high price for the hardware it offers with only 1 GB of RAM.
Mecool KD5 Specs
The small Mecool KD5 integrates the new AMlogic S805X2 SoC manufactured in 12nm. This chip is a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A35 processors and a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU.
The RAM memory is only 1 GB LPDDR4 and for storage it includes only 8 GB of eMMc memory, a configuration that is very short for current uses and that also cannot be expanded, since we do not have a microSD card slot.
For wireless connectivity, we have Dual Band Wi-Fi aC and Bluetooth 4.2. The connectors are almost non-existent in this stick, due to the fact that we only have a micro USB port for power and an HDMI 2.0 video connector.
The remote control included is by Bluetooth technology, and we have buttons for direct access to Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube and Google Play as well as a microphone for voice functions.
