It seems that MINIX has taken a liking to mini PCs and if we recently saw the J50C-8SE based on a J4125 processor today we come across the new MINIX NGC-5 which already includes a much faster Intel Core i5 processor.
This new MINIX mini PC keeps the design line of this brand with black box and a configuration that we have already seen in other mini PCs recently with the Beelink brand. A product mainly focused on the professional field for the features it offers and the possibilities it gives us.\
Processor, RAM and storage
The MINIX NGC-5 mini PC includes as engine the Intel Core i5-8259U processor, a Quad core with eight threads that integrates an Intel Iris Plus 655 GPU more powerful than Intel HD Graphics with a consumption of 20/28 W TPD. For cooling we will have a heatsink with active fan that expels air to the outside.
As for RAM we have 8 GB DDR4 2400 Mhz but can be expanded up to 32 GB thanks to the two SO-DIMM slots available. For storage it includes an M.2 NVMe 2280 SSD of 256 GB capacity that we can freely replace by another of more capacity.
Other specifications
Wireless connectivity is in the hands of an M.2 card that includes WIFI 5 aC and Bluetooth 4.2 with two external antennas. The connectors are quite complete and we find two Gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 3.1 Type-A, a USB Type-C port, 3.5 mm audio jack + SPDIF, micro SD card reader, RS232 COM connector and HDMI 2.0 + DP 1.2 video outputs with support for resolutions up to 4K at 60fps.
Also internally we have the option to mount a 4G-LTE modem in an M.2 2242 slot with accommodation for a Nano SIM, internal RS232 COM port, speaker connector and LPC and GPIO ports.
