As we know there are few Android TV-Boxes with certificates to watch streaming content in the highest quality, now only in India we have the new Nokia Media Streamer. A new microscopic device that reminds us of the Xiaomi Mi Box S but has more limited specifications, a smart box certainly focused on competing in price in the Indian market.
Being a certified Android TV this micro box has Chromecast, also allows streaming playback as Netflix and possibly installed manually we can also use Prime Video, Disney+ or HBO, that if only in full HD quality at most. The remote control can see the buttons dedicated to launch Netflix and ZEE5 (Indian streaming platform). The operating system is Android TV 9 and has Dolby audio certificate.
SoC, RAM and storage
So you can deduce from the data of the Nokia Media Streamer and especially for its limitation to FullHD content surely mount a SoC AMlogic S805Y, a Quad Core with ARM processors Cortex-A53 and an ARM GPU Mali-450 MP3, identical to the one we have in the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick. Like the Xiaomi Stick we are left with only 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage something too basic that will limit multitasking but that is enough to run a streaming app.
As far as wireless connectivity is concerned, we have Dual Band WiFi and Bluetooth. On the front we have a HDMI 2.0 connector and on the other end a micro USB port for power. A Bluetooth remote control with a microphone for Google Assistant is included and can be launched from the dedicated button.
Price and availability
- The Nokia Media Streamer is only available in India at the moment for a price of around $40 at the exchange rate.
