NVIDIA Shield TV with new cylindrical design now on sale

The cylindrical and compact model of the NVIDIA Shield TV 2019 has just arrived in stores, a device similar to the new NVIDIA Shield TV Pro that we also already have for sale but in a reduced format. In this small device we also have improvements in multimedia playback that include Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision support, of course the new Tegra X1+ SoC is integrated, which is 25% more powerful. Soon we will have our usual detailed review on this new media player in Stick format.

SoC, RAM and storage

The small NVIDIA Shield TV surprises us with its cylindrical design, the main differences regarding the NVIDIA Shield Pro are in the amount of RAM and storage since we go from having 3/16GB to 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. This is a model intended for those who want to use it only for streaming, KODI or Plex since the Pro model is better for games.

In the rest of the hardware specifications we are matched to the Pro we have the powerful Tegra X1+ SoC that integrates the same Maxwell GPU and we also have Dolby Vision HDR native support and Dolby Atmos audio. A SoC that remains undoubtedly the most powerful in the market at the moment and will have excellent support.

Other features

The cylindrical NVIDIA Shield TV has a Wifi ac 2×2 MIMO and Bluetooth 5.0 chip. The included connectors, of course, are reduced compared to the Pro model and we only have a USB 3.0 Type-C port, power connector, a Gigabit Ethernet connector and HDMI 2.0 video output. The installed system is Android TV 9 Pie updated to the latest and with all the necessary adjustments to get the maximum performance in all its fields.

This model have the same new remote has undergone a radical change, the annoying touch volume control has been eliminated, we now have a Netflix direct access button and the battery is exchanged for two AAA batteries that will surely last for years. The Bluetooth controller also includes a microphone for Google Assistant, retro lighting that is activated with motion detection, IR transmitter and a system to find it in case we have lost it between the sofa cushions.
