We already have for sale the new ODROID-C4 development board that includes the Amlogic S905X3 SoC widely used in the Android TV-Box but unusual in development boards. A processor with very good performance that offers us a solid base to develop any resource-demanding application. In the Odroid forum we have available Benchmarks made with the S905X3 that mounts this new PCB and they coincide with the data that we saw previously in one of our comparisons.
SoC, RAM and storage
The new ODROID-C4 development board includes as we see the AMlogic S905X3 SoC manufactured in 12nm, a Quad Core with ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores that reaches up to 1.9 GHz speed and integrates a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU with support Vulkan. This board can mount 4GB of DDR4 RAM and as storage you have to buy an eMMc module or use the microSD card reader to install the system, taking into account that a microSD is much slower than eMMC memory.
Other specs
At the connectivity level we only have a Gigabit Ethernet port, if we want WiFi + BT it is necessary to use an external USB adapter that is purchased separately since it does not have an integrated chip. The included connectors are an HDMI 2.1 output, 4 USB 3.0 ports, 1 microUSB 2.0 OTG port, UART, DC connector, IR receiver, and 40-pin and 7-pin GPIO connectors.
The available output operating systems will be Ubuntu 20.04, CoreELEC, Android 9 (64bit) with Vulkan and LineageOS although the hardware acceleration in Ubuntu for the VPU/GPU is limited at the moment.
Price and availability
- The ODROID-C4 PCB with Amlogic S905X3 SoC will be available for a price of $50 but you must take into account the shipping rates, in addition to being almost mandatory to buy the eMMC module, power adapter and possible Wifi module, in addition to a box.
